What Preventative Health Really Means, and How Enbodie Helps
Darren Crowder · · 3 min read

“Preventative health” is a phrase that gets used a lot. Too often it is left vague, so I want to say plainly what we mean by it.
For us, preventative health means helping you understand potential risks earlier, before they become bigger problems.
That sounds simple. In practice, it asks for something most health tools don’t do: looking at the whole picture of a person, and doing it before anything has gone wrong.
Think of a plant
The easiest way to explain it is to think about looking after a plant.
You don’t wait until a plant is struggling before you care for it. You look at the soil, the light, the water, the environment and the season. You notice small changes. You learn what that particular plant needs, and you make small adjustments to help it stay healthy.
Nobody would call a plant “healthy” or “unhealthy” in isolation. It depends on the conditions around it.
We think about people in much the same way.
What Enbodie looks at
Enbodie looks across many parts of your life at once:
- Your skin and eyes
- The products you use and the ingredients inside them
- Your routines and exposures
- Your environment and lifestyle
- Other health signals

The aim is to help identify things that may not be right for you, earlier than you would otherwise notice them. In practice, that could mean:
- Spotting visible changes earlier
- Identifying ingredients, or combinations of ingredients, that may not suit you
- Understanding your cumulative exposure across your whole routine, not just one product at a time
- Recognising when something may need professional attention
That last point matters. Enbodie is not a replacement for your doctor, optician or pharmacist. Part of prevention is knowing when to go and see one.
Prevention only works when it is personal
A general rule for “everyone” is really a rule for an average person who doesn’t exist.
That is why Enbodie is being built for all genders, all ethnicities, all skin tones, all ages, and people with different values, beliefs and lifestyles. A product or ingredient that suits one person can be wrong for another, and a tool that ignores those differences can’t prevent very much.
What is right for you can change
What suits you isn’t fixed for life.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, perimenopause, menopause, changes in testosterone or other hormones, ageing, medication, diet, environment and lifestyle changes can all affect what may be appropriate for you.

Something that was a good choice two years ago may still be right. It may also deserve another look, because your circumstances have changed.
Your values count too
Health decisions aren’t only scientific ones. Whether you are vegan, halal, kosher, Jain, environmentally conscious, cruelty-free focused, or simply want to avoid certain ingredients, Enbodie can take those preferences into account alongside the health and scientific evidence.
A different question
Most product tools ask one question: is this product good or bad?
We ask a different one: is this right for you, your body, your values and your circumstances, today?
That is what preventative health means to us. It isn’t about fear, and it isn’t about throwing everything away. It’s about noticing earlier, understanding why, and making choices that fit the person you are right now.
